Roses are red
Bones you loved to chew
If there was a photo in the dictionary of World's Best Dog
It would be of you!

Zeb biting me with his sharp puppy teeth.  May 1998!

Monday we said goodbye to the best dog ever.  My parents' dog Zeb was only a month shy of 16 years of owning the World's Best Dog title.
Zeb was such a great dog and everyone loved him.  We got him from some neighbors when he was the cutest puppy.  While we were gone during the day he would walk to their house and scratch on the door, walk in, say hello to his dog parents then walk to the back door and take a swim in their pool.  ha.  He also knew who in the neighborhood would give him scraps and would make his rounds each morning day.  He loved when my mom made biscuits and would sit by the oven waiting for them to be done.   I had a Boston Terrier named Zoe Jane and she and Zeb were so in love.  No for real they were.  They had several litters of puppies and they were so adorable.  Zeb was the best daddy- letting Zoe Jane take a rest while he played with their puppies!  A neighbor down the street got one of their puppies and they would walk together to  and visit him every day at his new home.  Zeb would also sit where the bus dropped off the neighborhood kids after school to play with them.  He thought if he wasn't looking at you then you couldn't see him.  So funny.  He wouldn't let dogs get near babies and if he thought you were wrestling too rough with my nephews he would let you know it.  He had the same black leather collar for over 12 years.  He has also survived being hit by a car, attacked by coyotes, and due to doggie dementia got lost at the lake for a week in the August heat.  Zeb you really were the best dog ever.

So weird that this photo was taken January 2000.

And this was taken January 2014!  Oh and off subject but that vest I have on in the above photo I wore the day before the below photo was taken.  14 years later...

Baby Swingin

For Christmas my parents gave Dutch a baby swing.  The Step2 Infant to Toddler Swing if we are talking specifics.  A few weekends ago they came down for the day so Poppy could build a frame to hang the swing from.  It took him no time to put it together and Dutch has been swinging ever since.

This is usually what I see when I get home from work.  Dutch has always been an outside baby.  I use to come home to him and Eric rocking on the deck but now he has moved onto swinging. tear.  Hopefully soon we can make that area of the yard a little more appealing while incorporating some fun things for Dutch.  We are lucky to have such a big back yard.  We would be even luckier if we woke up tomorrow and there was a swimming pool in the yard!

Anyway if you need a great gift that will get lots of use but not clutter up the house a baby swing is a great option.

We have had a few really pretty days around here.  I really hope this spring thing sticks around.

And just when it starts warming up and you have getting ready for swimsuit season on your mind, just know that Dutch is working on his figure as well.  His legs just keep getting bigger and it is awesome!  Ain't nothin cuter than big baby legs in bubbles!

Guest Bed

In April we will have lived in our house for 5 years!  I can't believe that, time has flown by!  We didn't think we would live here for more than 3 years and now I don't really see us going anywhere.  Sure we would love a little more space than our 1,200 square feet our has but honestly I don't want more room for more stuff.  I would love a bigger living room and kitchen.  Our kitchen cabinets are janky and I really want new ones, but if I do that then we might as well make the kitchen bigger and if we do that then we might as well keep going and add the addition.  See how my mind works, all or nothing.  Plus the point of staying in our house is to save money so I think an addition would defeat the purpose.  While an addition is out of the question right now a little guest room improving could probably work out.

I don't think the guest room is a particularly bad room but I want to make it a little nicer.  Plus I've had the same bedding in there for 5 years and if you know me that is amazing all in itself.

I would love to upgrade to a queen in here but there just isn't room for the extra length of a queen mattress.  The chest has to stay because it holds my fabric.  The cabinet has to stay because it use to hold my fabric but it now conceals the gun safe that was once in what is now Dutch's room.  The dresser doesn't bother me but the cabinet, I would love to do something to.  Any ideas?

I am really leaning towards an upholstered headboard.  I really don't want to DIY one because I don't really have time for that anymore and I don't feel like making sure the nail heads are perfectly straight.  I also don't think that I want it to be rectangle shape because I will have a hard time paying for that when it would be so easy to DIY.  I also want the back to be high enough that it still shows with euro pillows propped against it. One more thing, I would LOVE for the legs to be upholstered since you are looking at the side when you walk in the room, there is no other way to arrange the room.  The headboards in my price range don't seem to have that option.  I've been looking all around and here are some of the beds I've found.

Safavieh Kerstin Arched Headboard at only $215 it seems like a good deal for an interesting shape

Grayson Headboard. Only $149 and has pretty good reviews. From what I can tell the legs are covered with fabric but I think I could probably recover with something similar to the headboard or paint them.

I've seen this World Market Hara Screen used as a headboard.  It would solve my dilemma of needing something all the way to the floor and it is thin so it wouldn't take up much space.  But it still isn't as cushy as I was going for.

While most headboards come in linen or grey I'm kind of wanting to do a colored headboard.  I know -that isn't the smartest way to go since it limits redos of bedding but if I'm spending the money I want to spend it on something I really want.

Like this Safavieh Shayne Headboard but I don't know if I 'm brave enough for something so blue.  I love navy and green together so I think I could get away with using my current euro shams but this might be too Elvis for me.

Really this is perfect to me, wish I could find something in that same color.  A little charcoal with a navy undertone.

I really love this melon colored headboard, but I think I would have to make something like this to get the right color.

As far as bedding and fabric, I'm sort of all over the place.  I wold really like to incorporate blue in some way. But then again I have some grey fabric that I could use for free.

These 2 may be able to be friends.

Maybe make a really nice bed skirt?  The one in there now was mine in college and is about 4" too short!  I don't really want to do grey since there is so much of it in that area of the house but again FREE.

So anyway that was pretty much what is going on in my head.  If anyone has seen any awesome bedrooms or bedding I should check out send them my way.

Dutch + Cam

Last week Dutch got to meet someone very special!!

Cam was really sweet with Dutch.  He told him that he had the perfect "Carolina" blue eyes.  He also kept saying "Dutch you're a big boy, you could probably tackle me now".  And of course he loved Dutch's Cam jersey. We were wanting to wait until Cam had on his Panthers uniform but it was 10 pm and Dutch is usually asleep by 7.

As you can tell Dutch was a little star struck.  I mean he spent most Sundays watching Cam play.

And I knew that I was a true Mom because I didn't push Dutch out of the way and jump in Cam's arms myself!

The Best Salad Mix

Since the weather is about to start being amazing, (if you say it enough it will happen right?!) I am getting into salads again.  Right now our favorite salad mix is the Baby Kale Salad from Walmart.
It is sooo good and tastes so fresh!  Add some soon to be summer tomatoes and you are good to go!

I am really into making my own salad dressing right now and this Greek Salad dressing is my favorite.  I will drink what is left in the bowl it is so good!
I think I got my salad dressing container at Walmart.  Love it because it has all of the measurements so you don't have to mess up any other dishes.

Cannot wait for those fresh summer veggies!

Tuesday Favorite: Grandmother

Last week we said goodbye to my Grandmother.  I usually try to keep things light around here and that is the way she would like it.  So today my favorite is Grandmother.

My favorites about her: She made the best spaghetti.  I can taste it now.  Rumor is the sauce was from a can but still wonderful just the same.  She would give you anything.  Everytime you went to visit her you left with something.  Even if all she had to give was a half used bottle of face cream, she gave it to you.  I never saw her in a bad mood.  She always had something to be happy about.  We were getting pictures together of Grandmother and every single one of them she was laughing.  You know the big happy kind of laugh.
My Aunt described her as accepting of others.  I never really thought about it but she did accept everyone.
When we were little instead of calling her Grandmother we called her Big Boobs.  She also had the tiniest chicken legs.  She loved makeup and looking nice.  Going anywhere was an event.  She had Macular Degeneration (which is not funny at all) but we always laugh about her calling it "The Macular".  Every time Eric or I even have a cold we ask if it is "the macular".  She also was very worried we would all get the macular and worked hard to educate us on it!  She said winder and piller instead of window and pillow.
She loved Dutch so much.  She would always tell my mom that he was the cutest of all her grand kids.

There are so many more things about her that I love and will miss.  But like my sister said I am so honored to be part of the chosen few to carry on her legacy.
No telling what she was saying right here, I'm sure something that shouldn't be told again!
