FOE Hair Tie Tutorial & Giveaway

Well it has been a while. I had surgery a couple of weeks ago and I think I am all around back to normal so I need to get back to blogging.  I might go into more detail on my surgery later, I don't know do you people really care about those kind of details?  I would imagine not but I think I could help someone in the same situation so maybe.

Anyway have you seen the hair ties made out of fold over elastic or FOE?  They sell them in stores around here for like $3 a hair tie.  I have jumbo thick hair so while they were really cute I wasn't sure if they would be able to hold my hair.  I decided to find out I would just make my own, I could make 30 for the what 2 cost in the boutique.
I bought my FOE elastic from the etsy shop Elastic By The Yard the 10 yd multi pack was perfect because there were so many pretty colors to choose from. To make the hair ties you need fold over elastic (FOE from now on), ruler, scissors and a lighter

I like for my pony tail holders to loop over 3 times so I found that cutting the FOE to 11 1/2" worked best for me.  Bonus points for using a circa 1989 ruler!
After you cut the FOE singe the edges with a lighter.  My fav part, I love to burn things.
Tie a knot and you are finished!  I didn't tie my knots very tight that way if the recipient of my hair tie needed it to be tighter they could easily take out the knot and adjust to their liking.
I used a cereal box to cut up and make little holders for my cards.  I cut them 3"x5" and stamped them with my little $1 spot stamps.
Load them up and you are ready to give them out.
Guess what!?
One of the cards o' hair ties may come to you.  Just leave a comment and I will pick a winner Thursday at 8am est.  If you enter please make sure your email is linked to your comments or you leave your email in your comments so I can get in touch with you.

Banana Pudding

I hope you all had a lovely Easter. We did and were lucky enough to celebrate after church with some sweet friends. My friend Hannah had her backyard looking beautiful and it was a great day to dine outdoors.

I contributed the desserts to the lunch (duh). One of the desserts I made was Banana Pudding.

The very first time I made Banana Pudding I made it the old fashioned way where you have to stir and stir and stir. When you are making enough for a huge party that is a lot of stirring. In my older age I've gotten wiser and lazier so now I make it like this....

1/2 (5 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix

1 cup cold milk
1/2 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1-1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (8oz) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 package vanilla wafers
5 bananas, sliced

In a mixing bowl, beat pudding mix and milk 2 minutes.
Blend in condensed milk until smooth.
Stir in vanilla and fold in whipped topping.
Layer wafers, bananas and pudding mixture in a glass serving bowl.
Chill until serving.

Orange Beach Alabama v 2.0

too much of the above ='s....

The difference in my beach trip the first week of March and the last week of March was a lot of sunshine and 30*. This was one of the most enjoyable beach trips I've had because of the weather. 80* is so much better than 100* when you are sitting in the sun. I prefer the water to be warmer but you could still get in. Plus the sand bars formed little pools that were warm. Oh yeah I would have loved for Eric to have been there. Spring sports you are on my *&^! list.
